All washrooms at Colchester-East Hants Public Library locations are now offering pads and tampons free to the public.
Funding for this initiative is part of the Provincial Government’s cost of living support to reduce the hardship lower income people experience around period poverty.
Period poverty describes the struggle many people (women, girls, transgender) face while trying to afford menstrual products. Difficulty affording menstrual products can cause people to stay home from school and work, with lasting consequences to their education and economic opportunities.
“We recognize that period poverty is a growing social issue impacting our community,” said Tiffany Bartlett, the library’s CEO. “We are proud to partner with the Province to support this movement for free menstrual products availability across the country.”
Free menstrual products provide access for everyone. People are encouraged to take one for themselves or someone they know.
